Up for today: the 13th annual Oscar luncheon at the home of Barry Diller and Diane Von Furstenberg, then, according to Denise Abbott of Inside the Bay Area, "Weinstein Co.'s cocktail party at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood," then, immediately preceding the Governor's Ball (budgeted at $1 million), "Jeffrey Katzenberg's fourth annual Night Before party at the Beverly Hills Hotel, with proceeds benefiting the Motion Picture & Television Fund."

Finally, culminating -- after the Awards; after the Swag Bag -- to Graydon and/or Sir Elton. The Vanity Fair Party if you want to see and be seen; Sir Elton's is you want to get drunk and have a good time without being all self-conscious.

There are other events leading up to the big showdown. From the LATimes' Stylescenes:

"Thursday was a busy, busy day for some Oscar nominees.

"The Dior beauty folks hosted a late-night, candlelit dinner party graced by Naomi Watts, Kate Bosworth, Lindsay Lohan, Diane Kruger, Emmy Rossum and Joy Bryant on the Chateau Marmont patio in Hollywood, Calif.

"Best actress Oscar nominee Keira Knightley staying in the Chateau even popped down briefly with some pals. But the 'Pride & Prejudice' beauty was a bit hard to recognize because she was suddenly sporting very long, thick hair. Hmmm. Extensions? Seems very likely."

Says Fashionweekdaily:

"New York socialites have invaded the Left Coast! Their home base is Jeff Kleins stylish Sunset Tower Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, which counts legendary debutante Cornelia Guest as a permanent resident. Alexandra Kramer is encamped at there, as well as Jen Raines, Alberta Ferrettis Christian Leone, Billy and Alexandra Kimball (who is leaving her PR post at Oscar de la Renta aprs the Oscars) and photographer Patrick McMullan."

"... Everywhere we looked, at every party and every restaurant, there was a boldface New York name. Alexandra Lind Rose is at the W with Alvin Valley, Vogues Alexandra Kotur and Vanity Fairs Bob Colacello are at The Beverly Hills Hotel, Aerin Lauder is at the Bel Air, Serena Boardman is at the LHermitage, and Zac Posen is at Peninsula. We saw Helena Christensen having pasta on the patio at The Ivy and Alexandra Kramer having dinner at Il Sole with Milla Jovovich."

Helena Christensen actually digests the food of mortals? We thought She -- Goddess -- just takes a sip of Ambrosia, for restorative purposes -- or something. Says JustJared:

"Last night at the Chateau Marmont, ONE.org held an event to rally up support to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. Actors aplenty turned up for the event including Lindsay Lohan, Matthew McConaughey, his girlfriend Penlope Cruz, Kate Bosworth, Keira Knightley, Heath Ledger, his wife Michelle Williams, Ellen Degeneres, her partner Portia de Rossi, Salma Hayek and Adrien Brody.

"Everyone enjoyed a performance by the children from The African Children's Choir.

"... QUESTION -- Which two redheads showed up together acting a bit too friendly for comfort at the ONE event? Here are some hints if you need them. Boy hint: Tomato. Girl hint: Vampire. Eeeeewwwww."

Hello!Magazine says Madonna and Guy Ritchie are still very much together, despite the reports going around the tabloids:

"Madonna is said to have cajoled husband Guy Ritchie into attending the Brits to silence speculation over the state of their marriage. But at a recent pre-Oscars dinner hosted by Jamie Oliver in LA's Soho House the shoe was very much on the other foot, with Guy making it clear to anyone watching that the Richies are very much together.
Article continues below...

"As other celebs such as Helena Christensen and the Hilton sisters looked on, the film director nestled up to his wife of five years, putting an affectionate arm around her and then planting a kiss on her sleek blonde locks. With everything from Kabbalah to Madonna's career blamed for tensions between the couple, Guy, who has something of a macho reputation, appeared to be underlining that the singer is still the lady for him."

And -- According to those intrepid PageSixxies:

"TALK about Oscar week party-crashing taken to the extreme. On Thursday night, a friend of director Guy Ritchie chased down a hit-and-run driver on Sunset Boulevard after the woman behind the wheel crashed into the $120,000, 2007 XJR Jaguar he was being chauffeured in and sped off. The unidentified pal was coming from partying with Madonna and her husband at the double-top-secret Soho House location in the Hollywood Hills. As a sponsor of the special Oscar party house, Jaguar has been shuttling celebrities to and from its VIP club - including Paris Hilton, Quentin Tarantino, Sienna Miller and Anne Heche."
