Will Venezuela Get a Security Council Seat?

Hugo Chavez's obnoxious -- nay, gaseous -- speech at the opening of the General Assembly, referring to the President of the United States as "el diablo (Averted Gaze)," was, to insiders, an obvious attempt to capitalize on the distaste for American foreign policy at the UN and a naked attempt to snatch a vacant Security Council seat.

The voting is today, between Venezuela and Guatemala. Should Chavez get the seat -- as he is expected -- Venezuela will, no doubt, cockblock John Bolton at every turn (As if Russia and China weren't enough of a headache, as it is). This is, we surmise, eason #7,525 for getting Bolton out -- reason #7,526 will be a Democrat-controlled House and Senate -- and installing someone with actual diplomatic skills in at Turtle Bay.

Stay tuned.
