"In a telephone address to lawyers in Pakistan’s capital, the ousted chief justice of the Supreme Court urged them today to continue to defy the state of emergency imposed by the president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf. 'The lawyers should convey my message to the people to rise up and restore the Constitution,' the chief justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, told dozens of lawyers on speakerphone at a meeting of the Islamabad Bar Association before his cellphone line was cut. 'I am under arrest now, but soon I will also join you in your struggle.'" (NYTimes)

"Jerry Seinfeld, who’s got every one buzzing with his new animated flick 'The Bee Movie', has a new neighbor on Further Lane, Vijay Singh. The highly paid pro golfer joins Jerry and Jessica, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ron Baron as neighbors, has paid $9.5 million for a six-bedroom home on just over two acres on a private lane off the pricey East Hampton thoroughfare. The 7,000 square-foot main house on a densely wooded property backs up to the still-vacant 8.5-acre oceanfront land owned by Yahoo! Chairman Terry Semel and has a pool and pool house, but no putting green -- yet ... Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who seems to be making a big splash on the Riviera and other European hot spots, is fast becoming a model Brit." (Hamptons)

"After eight years in exile, Bhutto returned to Pakistan on 18 October amid rumours that she had secured some form of power-sharing deal with Musharraf. Although no official agreement has been announced, the government paved the way for Bhutto's return by dropping the corruption charges against her on the eve of the 6 October presidential election. In a sign that some agreement had been reached, the PPP did not oppose Musharraf's controversial re-election. It was clear that Bhutto's life would be in danger as soon as she returned. She had explicitly outlined her ambitions to take on Pakistan's extremists and even said she would consider allowing US forces to enter Pakistani territory if the security situation in the tribal areas continued to deteriorate. She also supported the storming of Islamabad's Red Mosque (Lal Masjid) in July, an assault that has incensed Islamists in Pakistan and elsewhere." (Janes)

"Stephen Colbert's South Carolina 'supporters' are aiming to get 10,000 phone calls in 10 days into the South Carolina Democratic Party, demanding that the comedian appear on the ballot there. Meanwhile, CNN reported that Obama supporters were pushing to keep him off the ballot -- though I don't think that was on the urging of the Obama's South Carolina campaign." (Politico)

"Umbrella girl Rihanna has finally come clean about movie star Josh Hartnett and told 3am: 'I've fallen for him big time' ... Spilling the beans about Pearl Harbor star Josh, 29, she grinned: 'I would be lying if I told you we were not more than just friends.'" (3AMGirls)
