Obama To Meet McCain Next Week

(image via newsday)

How the President-elect regards his former rival could determine whether or not Senator John McCain is an obstructionist force in the United States Senate, or someone who could push important bipartisan legislation (Health Care, Earmarks) through that august body in the next 4 years. While nothing in his past suggests that Barack Obama is anything other than a forgiving man with former rivals, McCain is famously prickly and in defeat could conceivably prove unromanceable. From TheHill:

"President-elect Barack Obama will meet with his vanquished rival next week, his transition team said.

"Obama is scheduled to meet with Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) on Monday at Obama's transition headquarters in Chicago.

"Transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said in a statement that McCain will be joined by his ally Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, will also attend the meeting."

Curious that the Presient-elect is bringing along the bad cop in the good Obama/bad Emmanuel routine ...
