Anti-Intellectualism And The Iranian Elections

It struck me just how anti-intellectual the aftermath of the Iranian elections are in essence. It is a denial of reality itself, saying that Ahmadinejad won when he so obviously didn't (even in Moussavi's home district). But if the authoritarians say it is so, then it is. Pure anti-intellectualism.

The blocking of communication devices, the fundamentally misogynistic nature of the patriarchal theocracy, the clumsy vote-rigging, the student killings, the mass resignations of professors at Tehran University and that photo (above) of an overturned book case are all startling reminders that reason and science are still not planetary realities.
